Ping 50th Anniversary LIMITED EDITION (1 of 775)(#158) - Allan's Mold Anser Putter

Ping 50th Anniversary LIMITED EDITION (1 of 775)(#158) - Allan's Mold Anser Putter

PING 50th Anniversary Anser Limited Edition Putter – Allan’s Mold (#158 of 775)

Condition: [Insert condition: e.g., Excellent / Near Mint / Mint]
Target Audience: Golf club collectors, vintage putter enthusiasts, or players seeking a historic high-end putter with collectible value.

Overview

In 2016, to mark 50 years of the legendary PING Anser design, Ping released a limited-edition putter made using the original 1966 molds and components, replicating much of the original manufacturing process — including hand-grinding of the sole by John Solheim.
This particular model is from Allan’s mold (the “A” mold) — one of the two original cast molds (the other being Karsten’s mold, “K”). Ping produced 1,550 right-handed units in total (775 per mold) for this anniversary edition.
This example is #158 of the Allan mold series.
Each unit came with a commemorative presentation box, leather headcover, and certificate of authenticity personally signed by John Solheim.

Key Features & Specifications

  • Head material: High-tensile manganese bronze cast using the original sand-casting process from the 1966 Anser.

  • Mold: Allan’s mold (slope-side variant) — serial number will include “A” to designate Allan mold.

  • Sole: Each putter had its sole hand-ground by John Solheim to replicate the original craftsmanship.

  • Shaft & Grip: Uses original-style components: True Temper high-step shaft, Golf Pride PP58 grip, same 3M grip tape supplier from 1966.

  • Weighting & Finish: Tungsten heel and toe weights inserted and key surfaces milled — aged/tumbled finish for vintage appearance.

  • Presentation: Includes original box, leather cover, certificate of authenticity signed by John Solheim (verify inclusion for full collector value).

Collector Value & Significance

  • This putter commemorates a milestone: 50 years of the Anser model, which boasts perhaps the most successful putter design in golf history.

  • Because only 775 units of the Allan mold version exist (for right-handers), this version is relatively rare among modern collectible golf clubs.

  • Putter-collectors often place high value on provenance (serial number, mold designation, original box & paperwork).

  • Condition, remaining finish, unmodified components, and original accessories all play a critical role in determining collectible value today.

Why This Particular Example Stands Out

  • “#158 of 775” mark gives it provenance and authenticity in the limited-edition run.

  • Being the Allan mold version adds desirability among PING/Anser collectors (some prefer one mold over the other).

  • If in excellent condition with original box/cover/certificate, it is both a functional putter and a collector’s item.

  • It allows a golfer to game a historic design, or a collector to secure a piece of golf-club history.

Fit & Usage Considerations

  • Although collectible, if you intend to use it rather than display it: check the shaft length, lie angle, grip condition, and overall alignment to your putting stroke.

  • Being a limited-edition, if re-gripping or modifying it you may reduce its collector value — recommend keeping original components unless you have duplicate.

  • If left in pristine condition it may appreciate; if you plan to play it often, be aware wear may degrade value.

Condition Description for Listing

Here’s a suggested section you may include in your listing, tailored to your item’s condition (adjust as needed):

Condition Details: The club-head is free of any major dings or gouges; finish shows light surface wear consistent with minimal handling. The sole retains its hand-ground surface with visible serial stamping “A-158”. The shaft is original True Temper high-step, straight and without bends; the grip is the original Golf Pride PP58 with minimal use. Includes original presentation box, leather cover, and certificate signed by John Solheim. Overall, the putter is in [specify: Excellent/Near Mint] condition — a rare, game-ready and collectible piece.

Final Thoughts

If you’re listing or showcasing this item: emphasize both its heritage (50th anniversary of the Anser design) and scarcity (1 of 775, Allan mold series, #158). Whether as a piece for your collection or potentially playable, it offers a unique intersection of craftsmanship, history and performance.
